There is a new book of fairy tales, dedicated to the hunter, and intended for parents and children of all ages and thought to facilitate the reading of people who suffers of DSA (dyslexia and general learning difficulties).
Three young professionals of the Trentino region, situated in Northern Italy, in the heart of Dolomites, Patrizia Filippi and Luca Gottardi the writers and Daniela Casagranda the illustrator, have edited a particular fairy tale book focused on the figure of the hunter. The authors are nature and tradition lovers and close to their ancestral roots as they are, they decided to write about the hunting by means of eleven fairy tales, sometimes inspired by popular sayings revisited in a modern key. With lexical simplicity and funny drawings, children learn the truth about hunting and are introduced to the topic “biodiversity”. The tales try to explain some paradoxical situations that we got used to by consumerism that caused an estrangement from nature and environmental sustainability.
The Italian version is read out in primary schools of the Autonomous Region Trentino Alto Adige, which, as institution, has sponsored “The Hunter in Wonderland” together with the Province of Trento and the Trentino Hunting Union. The crossing of the Alps has happened thanks to the Union of the South Tyrolean Huntresses that took care of the translation into English and German. The preface has been written by Mrs Soňa Chovanová Supeková, President of the Working Group Artemis of the CIC International Council for Wildlife and Game Conservation, while Mr Michl Ebner, President of the FACE – Federation of Associations for Hunting and Conservation of the EU contributed the preface for the German version. CIC and FACE have also given the institutional patronage of to the book. The collection of fairy tales has been presented in a very exclusive event, the WaSHconference at the University of Wageningen Netherlands. It was an unmissable opportunity to make acquainted more than seventeen participating countries with the book.
The central topic of this biennial convention, called Women and Sustainable Hunting, was “Education”. The President Soňa Supekova from Bratislava has directed the WaSHconference held on July 2nd and 3rd, 2016 and she introduced “Hunter in Wonderland” on the occasion of the vernissage for the opening ceremony of the convention. Given the positive feedback of the participants, the book will soon be translated in Russian, Finnish and other languages. The common goal is to debunk the false myth of Bambi.
Authors and supporters aim to educate the young generations, with the purpose to improve its relationship with mother nature and to re-establish the correct balance between humans, animals and the environment, admitting the positive role of the hunting. The publishing project created by the “Comitato In Favola” committee, consisting of the writers and the illustrator, has reached higher consensus among the institutions, that share the motivation, that the book is helpful to overcome preconceived ideas, through the freshness of simple fairy tales thought both for children and adults.
