Let us analyze the behavior basing on the shooting on a cardboard sheet and on the results that this will show: we tested the HP 32 in the number 10, numbering suitable for quails and turtledoves. According to the indications of Fiocchi, the performance of this cartridge is 400 meters per second by developing a pressure of 8oo bar, and this means that it offers a remarkable combination of speed and restrained recoil.
I made three sets of shots in order to detect any unevenness in the loading and in the shot pattern distribution, and I must say that rarely I found myself facing a cartridge more stable than the HP 32 by Fiocchi. The choice of the shooting distance was 15 meters, namely the statistically more effective one, in case of hunting quails and turtledoves . In the first barrel, narrowing 3 ***, 90% of the shot pattern is
perfectly distributed in a perfect circle of diameter of 35 centimeters, while in the second barrel, throttling 1 *, the diameter is limited to 28 centimeters. What does it mean? It means that at the most useful hunting distance, chasing small gallinaceans, it will be enough to aim for the prey to see it fall without fear of misfiring, because the diameter usefully covered by the shot pattern is six or seven times larger than the actual diameter of the quail, and 4 times larger than the turtledove’s one. In case of diagonal shot, and then especially undermining the turtledove, the very high speed of the cartridge will require only to look at the bird and pull the trigger to hit it. In the second barrel, for example, it is easy to shoot down a turtledove, even at twenty-five meters and in full speed. For those who didn’t have any idea, 25 meters is the height of a four-storey building.
